Volunteer

Volunteers are at the heart of Rotorua Hospice – without our volunteers, we simply could not provide the same level of care to our community.

Opportunities

The volunteer positions at Rotorua Community Hospice cover a wide range of skill sets and interests. Whether you want to get involved weekly, monthly or occasionally, there’ll be a volunteer opportunity for you.

Volunteer roles include:

  • Shop volunteers
  • Warehouse assistants and drivers
  • Administration roles
  • Fundraising and event volunteers
  • Gardeners and maintenance volunteers
  • Patient and family companions
  • Biographers / Life story writers
  • Beauty and massage
  • Day Stay volunteers and patient drivers

Education & Training

When you join Rotorua Community Hospice, we want you to feel welcome. All volunteers receive an initial orientation and induction. The training we provide aims to build confidence, knowledge and skills. Training is offered throughout the year and includes:

  • Essence of palliative care
  • Customer care and communication
  • Health and safety, Work Well and store security

Volunteers who will be working directly with patients will be required to undertake a 2-3 day training programme.

Educational Opportunities

Youth Ambassador Volunteers

If you are working towards gaining your Duke of Edinburgh Award, we can help by offering you volunteer experience as part of your community service. Consider volunteering for a 3-4 hour shift once a fortnight in the following areas:

  • Retail assistants at the Hospice Shops
  • Vehicle cleaning (wash, polish and valet)
  • Baking for Day Stay Patients
  • Fundraising/Events/Appeals Volunteers

Volunteering allows you to connect to your community and make it a better place. You get to work with your friends, have fun, meet new people and learn new skills.

Our shops turn pre-loved treasures into much needed comfort for families in their time of need. Proceeds help to fund our Hospice services, which are provided to patients and whānau free of charge.

We have something for you! Every purchase helps support a person with a life-limiting illness.

If you would like to donate good condition, second hand items, please contact us first. Sometimes we cannot accept goods as our storage space is limited. For large items, we offer a pick up service.
